AB de Villiers, a South African cricket great, shared the dressing room alongside Sarfaraz Khan at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He recently expressed his excitement with Sarfaraz’s performance in his maiden Test against England in Rajkot.

After a long wait for his India call-up, Sarfaraz Khan demonstrated his abilities with scores of 62 and 68* in the third match of the present five-Test series against England. De Villiers, who had previously played with the 26-year-old, was happy to witness Sarfaraz’s family’s reaction.

“I have played with this boy before and he is a very level-headed and down-to-earth guy. I am really proud of him. It was great to see his dad blow kisses after Sarfaraz reached fifty and it was heartwarming for me to watch.”

AB de Villiers also lauded Shubman Gill for another key knock as his place in the team was under threat. Gill’s 91 helped India set a massive goal of 557 for the visitors. On this, De Villiers stated:

“He (Gill) has been under pressure and isn’t in the best of forms. But he played such a crucial knock under pressure and that too at a crucial point in his career. This innings was crucial for him to get some breathing space in that Indian team.”

England were bowled out for 122 in the fourth innings, losing by a stunning 434 runs. India gained a 2-1 series lead with their largest Test victory ever in terms of run margin.

Yashasvi Jaiswal accomplished a striking feat. He’s the third Indian batter to score two double centuries in a row. Remarkably, he scored a dazzling 214 in Rajkot. AB de Villiers praised the kid for taking apart the England bowling attack and knocking them out of the game.

On this, De Villiers stated:

“There are not enough words to witness. It is aggressive batting and just makes the game look so easy. I love watching him (Jaiswal) play and it seems like the pressure is always on the bowlers.”

AB de Villiers trusts Yashasvi Jaiswal to perform well on various grounds and against diverse teams, even on away matches. During the six rounds of the series, Jaiswal already hit an impressive 545 runs, with an astonishing average of 109.

The fourth Test in Ranchi is key for England. They have to control him. It begins on Friday, February 23.
