Kolkata Knight Riders’ leader, Shreyas Iyer, displayed an interesting ritual before the coin toss against Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 IPL season. He kissed the coin, perhaps seeking luck, as he had enjoyed a good toss record. However, Samson’s coin flipped in favor of RR, who elected to bowl first.
Iyer started the season by losing the toss to Pat Cummins in the opener against SunRisers Hyderabad. Since then, he has only lost the toss once, to Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad at Chepauk.
The KKR captain is having a successful campaign, with the two-time winners losing only one match thus far. He would be eager to reclaim the top rank following the match against the league leaders, Rajasthan Royals (RR).

When asked about kissing the coin, Shreyas Iyer said to host Sanjay Manjrekar:
“It wasn’t the case, it was all about flying kiss. I would’ve loved to bowl because it has a lot to offer for the bowlers and we witnessed the same day before yesterday.”

KKR has decided to field the same playing XI that defeated the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recently. Even back then, Iyer had performed the intriguing ceremony with the coin before flipping it, and it had worked well on that occasion. KL Rahul actually laughed at Iyer’s comedy.
It should be mentioned that the encounter with RR is the second of KKR’s five consecutive home games.

Since 2018, Iyer has captained IPL franchises repeatedly. He leads more than Dhoni and Rohit currently. Iyer is the most experienced IPL skipper now. The other two don’t captain their teams anymore.
Shreyas Iyer has won the toss 35 times in 60 matches as captain, for a victory percentage of 58.33.
