Team India made a key breakthrough just before lunch on Day 4 of the second Test against England in Vishakapatnam with Zak Crawley’s wicket. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav convinced skipper Rohit Sharma to call a review after catching the batsman LBW in the 42nd over of the innings.

England hoped to reach it to the lunch break without losing any more wickets, having already lost three in the first session. Rohit Sharma had brought Kuldeep back into the assault for a brief while to wrap off the session.

Crawley was outfoxed by a ball that stayed low and smacked him on the pads, prompting a furious appeal from the hosts. However, umpire Marais Erasmus remained unimpressed, prompting the spinner to present his case to the skipper.

Rohit Sharma sought advice from both the bowler and the wicketkeeper, KS Bharat, before deciding to conduct the review. There were early concerns that the ball had spun too much, resulting in either the delivery missing the stumps or an umpire’s call decision.

While each of the aforementioned scenarios would have been ideal for England, the DRS showed three reds, prompting Crawley to return to the pavilion for a well-earned 73 run-knock.

Crawley was the glue that held the England innings together as he saw wickets tumble at the opposite end. The opener had also reached a fifty in the first innings before being caught brilliantly by Shreyas Iyer off Axar Patel’s bowling.

The Men in Blue ended off the opening session in style, with Jasprit Bumrah trapping Jonny Bairstow to restrict the visitors to 194-6 and bring the series level.

Bairstow sought a review after being ruled out by the on-field umpire, but the DRS upheld the on-field judgment, prolonging his misery on the subcontinent.

England are currently 205 runs behind Team India’s total, with skipper Ben Stokes ready to join Ben Foakes out in the middle.
