Rohit Sharma, Team India’s captain, had a brain fade moment before the toss before the high-octane T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in New York on Sunday, June 9 at the Nassau County International Stadium. The skipper seemed to forget he had the penny in his pocket and instead asked match referee David Boon for one.

The moment of misunderstanding was funny, especially when David Boon reminded Rohit Sharma that he had the coin after he requested for it. Even opposing captain Babar Azam couldn’t stop laughing, while Ravi Shastri was left smiling.

After the puzzlement was completed, Rohit Sharma grabbed the coin and handed it to everyone before tossing it in the air. The coin fell in favor of Babar Azam, who chose to bowl first despite the cloudy weather.

The toss was delayed by 30 minutes owing to precipitation, and the pitch was covered for the time. Take a look at what happened here:

Rohit Sharma chose an unchanged starting XI from the previous victory against Ireland at the same venue.

“Would’ve bowled first too. We need to assess how conditions play and come up with an idea of what a good score is. Those games have helped us assess conditions here. We’ve spoken about what we need to do as a batting unit to get a good score and then we’ve got the bowling unit to defend. Every game is important in a World Cup, you can’t just show up. Anything can happen. We’re sticking to the same XI.”

The start of the battle has been delayed owing to the damp ground, and the teams are not yet on the field for the national anthems as authorities analyze the situation.

Throughout his captaincy journey whether steering the Mumbai Indians ship since 2013 or commandeering Team India as skipper since 2022 Rohit Sharma’s casual demeanor has been a prominent feature charming audiences during numerous coin tosses.

One of the most notable moments occurred during the second ODI against New Zealand in 2023, when he forgot his choice after winning the toss. Even in Team India’s most recent victory against Ireland, the captain overlooked one of the players who did not make the starting XI.
