Cricket fans across the world were anticipating the IPL 2023 final on Sunday, May 28 in Ahmedabad. BCCI, however, was obliged to postpone the match to the next day due to rain.

Despite having a seating capacity of 1,32,000 and world-class drainage infrastructure, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium was unable to hold the game on Sunday due to the persistent rain.

Some fans on social media suggested that the government consider building retractable roofs in some of the major Indian grounds so that matches are not hampered by rain. When it rains, a retractable roof transforms the stadium into a gigantic dome, and the matches are moved indoors.

Docklands venue in Melbourne is the only Cricket Stadium in the world with a retractable roof. It is sometimes referred to as the Marvel Stadium.

What happens if a ball hits the roof in a cricket match at the Docklands Cricket Stadium?

Several cricket fans recommended transferring certain games to the Docklands Cricket Stadium during last year’s ICC T20 World Cup in Australia so that vital group-stage matches would not be cancelled due to rain.

While the ICC did not let matches be played at Docklands which has routinely hosted Big Bash League (BBL) matches.

The Melbourne Renegades play their home games exclusively at the Marvel Stadium. The roof is barely 38 metres (125 feet) above the field.

Many strong batters blast the ball high into the sky, therefore it’s common to wonder what happens if the ball hits the roof of a closed stadium.

According to BBL regulations, if a batter’s shot hits the roof, the batting team scores six runs. When Perth Scorchers batter Ashton Turner’s shot smashed the roof four years ago, he was given six runs.
