It would be a vast understatement to suggest that the Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2022 season was disappointing. Player auctions significantly impact a team’s success, and it’s possible that some of the MI management’s decisions at the 2022 Mega Auction ultimately cost them. The eight losses by the five-time IPL champions, who had the worst season start of any team in tournament history, caused them to finish bottom in the standings.
The Mumbai Indians have an unrivalled IPL record, so a season like last year would have been a tremendous disappointment for everyone on the team.

Confusion in mid-overs bowling
The Mumbai Indians have never been fans of premier spinners, and this season was no exception. They had two excellent leg spinners in, Murugan Ashwin and Mayank Markande, but their performances fell short of expectations.
They were seriously harmed by both a lack of wickets and an inability to limit the flow of runs.
They also decried the need for a middle-over enforcer. The Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, now have a top-tier option in the middle overs courtesy of the acquisition of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green.
Batting issues
Imagine the mayhem that would erupt in the Power Play if any side possessed an opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. If they paired their best right-hand and left-hand strokes, Rohit’s against pace and Ishan’s against spin, they could smash any bowling attack. Tilak Verma and Dewald Brevis, two aggressive but inexperienced young players in their middle order, demonstrated the need for more depth to regularly get the team out of jams.
They also had the lowest team strike rate and boundary % overall in IPL 2022, indicating a problem they must fix in this season’s competition or risk repeating the previous one’s results.
Death-over bowling
The Mumbai Indians have continuously made substantial investments in their bowling unit, emphasising death overs specialists strongly.
They used to bowl death overs with Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Johnson, and Lasith Malinga. Still, after spending a lot of money on Jofra Archer, who was injured last season, they were compelled to buy domestic talent to replace that spot. They performed excellently within their abilities, but we still desired plenty. With Archer’s comeback, Mumbai Indians fans would be hoping for a better performance than last time.
