Mitchell Starc, an Australian speedster, is hopeful he can play in the second Test against India in Delhi, which starts on Friday (February 17). The 32-year-old also believes batting should not be a concern in the crucial Test match.
Mitchell Starc, a major player in Australia’s offence, was absent from the initial Test in Nagpur due to a finger injury he got while fielding during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne against South Africa. The left-arm bowler may take the spot of Scott Boland for the game that Australia must win in Delhi.
Starc, who arrived in Delhi with his teammates on Tuesday evening, mentioned that there is a good potential for playing on Friday, but much will also be contingent on the administration and the medical team’s decision.
He expressed that he would like to be farther along in his progress, yet there is still a good chance of success. It will come down to how he feels by the end of Wednesday, what the medical team thinks, and what the selectors Pat and Ronnie think. He plans to do all he can to be ready to be chosen, and then the group will have a discussion about it.
The left-handed fast bowler declared that he would play with a cap covering his damaged finger, adding further:
“I don’t think batting will be an issue. Soo it’s going to be uncomfortable but I don’t think it’s an issue. I think I’ll still field with a cap on the finger, that’s what I did in Melbourne .I don’t field myself in slip anyway.”
Australia missed the ace bowler’s services in the first Test, given the reverse swing on offer. In the Brisbane Test against South Africa, the New South Wales bowler crossed 300 wickets by dismissing Rassie van der Dussen.
