Shubman Gill of India surprised England captain Ben Stokes and experienced spinner James Anderson by hitting a magnificent six early on Day 2 of the current Test between the two sides in Dharamsala on Friday, March 8.

Anderson has defeated Gill five times in the longest format. The seasoned seamer’s strategy was similar as he bowled a solid length delivery and attempted to create movement to worry the right-handed hitter.

Gill, on the other hand, rushed down the track and pounded a maximum directly over Anderson’s head. Given how early it was in the day, Stokes was shocked and nodded in agreement.

Here’s a video:

Gill’s batting has recently been full of confidence. He’s knocked off over 400 runs in the series already. Not to mention, he’s got one full century and three halves under his belt.

Resuming play on Day 2 with India at 135/1, England badly needed to take advantage of the conditions early in the morning and make inroads into the hosts’ batting lineup. There was optimism for them because Indian pacers had benefited from the circumstances on the first morning.

However, it was not to be, as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill dominated the first hour of play on Friday. The Indian captain set the tone by targeting Shoaib Bashir, while Gill followed suit by attacking James Anderson.

Ben Stokes attempted different field placements and used Mark Wood’s short ball strategy, but the Indian batsmen appeared to have a solution for each.

At the time of writing, both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are reaching hundreds as the hosts attempt to knock England out of the Test.
