Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan, who are presently travelling reserves in the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, may come home shortly after the group stage concludes. The Men in Blue have one match remaining in Group A, against Canada in Florida, and they have already qualified for the Super 8.

According to Cricbuzz, Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan flew to Florida with the rest of the squad on a chartered flight following Team India’s victory against the United States of America (USA). The next battle is in jeopardy owing to terrible weather conditions in the state, with constant rainfall causing a flood in the area.

The pair has not been called up to the main team because there have been no unforeseen injuries thus far. The situation might alter if a player is injured during practice or the match versus Canada on Saturday, June 15. However, the possibility of this occurring is quite low.

Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan may appear to be excess to needs in India. They already have an opening batsman on the bench in Yashasvi Jaiswal, and having two seamers in the travelling reserves side may be overkill given the spin-friendly conditions in the Caribbean.

Their existence till now was to guarantee a readymade substitute in the event of an injury. Due to obvious reasons, it would have been impossible to find a substitute player from India midway through the competition.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have identified four players as travelling reserves. With Gill and Avesh poised to go, India will only have Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed to pick from if the team needs to be changed.

Following India’s qualifying for the Super 8, the teams have chosen their sites for the future matches. Their match against Australia has been scheduled for Monday, June 24 in Saint Lucia. They are still waiting for their remaining opponents, although their matches are planned for June 20 and 22 in Barbados and Antigua, respectively.
