Sanju Samson, captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), applauded the team management for developing and sharpening the skills of upcoming players such as Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. Jaiswal and Parag have become a regular part of the RR playing XI and have been doing well domestically too. The world got its first look at Dhruv, part of India’s squad for the 2020 U-19 World Cup, in the form of a powerful performance to keep RR in contention against Punjab Kings (PBKS). On his debut, he scored an impressive unbeaten 32 off 15 balls, but unfortunately, RR fell five runs short of the target at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, April 5.

Samson commented during the post-match press conference that while training camps and academies are important, they must be considered during the off-season. He said:

Samson also said “Dhruv Jurel has been with us for the last two seasons I think, he was playing a lot of domestic games. What we franchises do is have training camps right before the IPL, but what we made sure is that people who are playing domestic cricket, they keep on coming to our academy.”

“I think we did five to seven camps lasting one week each almost throughout the year in Nagpur, Jaipur, Chennai, Bangalore, almost everywhere. We make sure that people like Jurel, Parag, and Jaiswal get enough practice. A lot of credit has to go to the team management.”

Jurel put on an electrifying display of batting with three fours and two sixes, the most magnificent being a stunning shot that sailed over cover off Arshdeep Singh’s bowling. In 2022, he was signed by the very first IPL champions for the base price of ₹20 lakh.

We hope he wins us a few games- Samson on Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel made his way to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a successful domestic campaign with Uttar Pradesh. With the new impact player rule being implemented in the IPL, Jurel stands to gain regular game time at Rajasthan Royals (RR), as it provides an excellent platform for him to showcase his skills.

Samson praised RR’s head of cricket for working closely with Jurel, saying:

“Especially Zubin Bharucha, who is at the back end of our supporting staff. He has put in a lot of hours making someone like a Dhruv Jurel to bat the way he did in his first game, playing international bowlers in a pressure situation. I think that says a lot about Jurel, and we are very hopeful that he comes again and wins us a few games this season.”
