Shoaib Akhtar, a former sprinter for Pakistan, has said that Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, typically panics in stressful situations.

Despite Sharma’s extraordinary potential as a batsman, in Akhtar’s opinion, there is still room for development in his leadership. The Men in Blue, according to Akhtar, have a good chance of winning the 2023 World Cup since they have a strong squad and the benefit of playing at home.

These comments were made by Shoaib Akhtar in a video that Revsportz uploaded to YouTube. He stated:

“Rohit Sharma is a great guy. However, he does panic at times during captaincy. I may sound a bit harsh here, but I don’t think he should have taken up India’s captaincy. He is even more talented than Virat Kohli. He is a classical batter. But was he made for captaincy? Does he react well in critical situations? These are the questions that keep coming to my mind.”

“You should also be questioning it. But there’s no doubt that he has the ability to win this World Cup. He has a home advantage and a good team,”

Rohit Sharma has an outstanding track record as a captain in international cricket, which is worth highlighting. In his 34 ODI matches as captain, he has won 24 games. He has guided India to five wins out of nine Test victories while also leading the Men in Blue to 39 victories from 51 games in T20Is.

Shoaib Akhtar said that since MS Dhoni left, India hasn’t found a great captain. When Virat Kohli was the captain of the national team, he admitted that he sometimes acted a little too aggressively.

Akhtar noted that the ongoing media scrutiny places a lot of strain on an Indian captain:

“Virat Kohli used to be overly aggressive, while Rohit Sharma panics a lot. I would blame the Indian media for this. An environment is built in which India just cannot afford to lose at any cost. Why can’t they lose?”
