Rohit Sharma, the leader of India’s cricket team, has allegedly requested that the India Cricket Control Board (BCCI) clarify if they have plans for him in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

The top-notch hitter has been absent from T20I matches since the notorious loss by 10 wickets to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup. He’s performed in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but hasn’t been selected for two-sided matches, despite holding the title as the Indian team’s official leader.

The World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup took center stage in 2023. With both long format events completed, the shortest format is back on top, with the World Cup only a half-year away.

The BCCI wished to dispatch a fresh squad for the 2024 competition. Still, some people believe that the team could benefit from the past experiences of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The captain recently spoke with the BCCI’s senior brass via Zoom about Team India’s team selection for the South Africa tour.

According to a Dainik Jagran report, he stated:

‘If you want to select me for the T20 World Cup then tell me now how to go about it.”

Team India has only played a few Twenty20 Internationals in preparation for the T20 World Cup in 2024. The Men in Blue are slated to play three Twenty20 Internationals against Afghanistan in January, with the 2024 IPL acting as a preparatory medium for the ICC competition.

He will captain the side again for the two-match Test series, which will begin on December 26 as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.
