A video of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma enthusiastically greeting teammates Virat Kohli and KL Rahul after the team’s 2023 World Cup victory against Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday has gone popular on social media.

In the 17th match of the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Men in Blue beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. With the victory, India achieved their fourth victory in as many tournament matches. The hosts bowled first and limited Bangladesh to 256/8 before chasing the total down in 41.3 overs.

Following the game, a grinning Rohit sharma was seen laughing with Kohli and Rahul. ICC posted a video of the incident with the caption:

“Welcoming the boys who did it ????.”

Kohli was named Player of the Match for his unbroken 103 off 97 balls, a fantastic effort packed with six fours and four sixes, the last of which brought up his century and proved to be the winning runs. The 34-year-old struck an unbroken 83-run fourth-wicket partnership with KL Rahul (34* off 34).

Earlier, skipper Rohit sharma (48 off 40 balls) and Shubman Gill (53 off 55 balls) got India off to a terrific start in pursuit of 257 runs, scoring 88 runs for the first wicket. Rohit sharma smashed seven fours and two sixes before being pulled, while Gill hammered five fours and two sixes in his appealing knock.

Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss, and their openers Litton Das (66 off 82) and Tanzid Hasan (51 off 43) scored 93 runs for the first wicket. However, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj each took three wickets as India restricted Bangladesh to 260 runs.

Rohit hailed the bowlers’ fightback at the post-match awards ceremony.

“It was a good win, something we were looking forward to. We didn’t start well, but the guys pulled it back in the middle-overs and at the back-end. Our fielding has been superb in all these matches, it’s something that’s in your control, you can put in your best effort. The bowlers were smart to understand what lengths to bowl.”

In the 2023 World Cup, Te­am India’s upcoming match is against New Zealand in Dharamsala on October 22nd. Similar to India, the­ Kiwis have also remained unde­feated in the tourname­nt, with a perfect record of four wins out of four matche­s.
