On Day 1 of the Rajkot Test, Team India captain Rohit Sharma was left angry in the dressing room after Sarfaraz Khan was run out due to a massive mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja in the middle.
Sarfaraz seemed at ease in his first innings, making 62 runs off 66 deliveries until calamity struck late on the opening day of the third Test against England.
Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan’s dynamic teamwork hit a pause. Jadeja was just one run away from hitting 100. He was ready to quickly run to the other side after lightly hitting the ball toward the mid-on area.
Sarfaraz replied to the request by stepping out of the crease for a single. However, Mark Wood delivered a brilliant straight hit when the rookie was still a long way from returning to the crease, bringing his knock to a disappointing finish.
Rohit Sharma, who had hoped the pair would finish off the day’s play and emphasize India’s supremacy on Day 1, was dissatisfied with the misunderstanding that occurred. While throwing the cap, he also shouted out some expletives, expressing his displeasure with the very unnecessary firing.

Ravindra Jadeja went on to score a hundred, his second at home, on the very next delivery. The all-rounder was still thinking about his previous run out when he answered with a quiet celebration, a truncated version of his famous sword celebration, and he didn’t even take off his helmet.

Sarfaraz Khan entertaining and confident innings comes as a major comfort for Team India, who will be playing with an inexperienced middle order for the rest of the series. The debutant’s 62-run innings included nine fours and a six at a strike rate of 93.94, and he reached fifty in just 48 deliveries, matching Hardik Pandya’s record for the quickest fifty by an Indian on debut.
Kuldeep Yadav was sent out at No.7 to finish the rest of the day. On Day 1, Team India concluded with 326-5 at Stumps, with Jadeja remaining undefeated on 110 runs.
