Pat Cummins has flown back to Sydney, Australia, in the middle of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after the completion of the second Test match in Delhi. The right-arm pacer and skipper has left the camp due to serious health issues in his family and is set to return to the subcontinent ahead of the third Test match.
India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Australia faced the second consecutive defeat within three days of a Test match. Pat Cummins did not bowl at all in the second innings, even being the sole pacer of the side. Steven Smith is all set to lead the Australian side in case Cummins does not make it in time. Australia, who have failed miserably against the Indian bowling attack on tour, will need something special to stage a fightback in the series. The result of the first two Test matches took India one step closer to a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
Mitchell Swepson, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are set to return to India ahead of the third Test match.
As per the reports, Mitchell Swepson will return along with Cummins, who had left after the Nagpur Test for the birth of his first child. The comeback of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood depends on their recovery from their respective injuries. Not only on the bowling side, but the Australian team has to make changes on the batting side as David Warner got his elbow injury in the Delhi Test. The Australian side will be in deep trouble if they fail to adapt to the nature of the Indian pitches.
