On April 25th, Mumbai Indians lost to Gujarat Titans by 55 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Mumbai was limited to 152/9 in response to Gujarat’s 207/6. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided a poor start while chasing 208. Tilak Verma also failed with the bat, leaving at 45/3. Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav had brief stints at the crease but couldn’t build a solid partnership. Tim David’s silver duck added to MI’s woes. Nehal Wadhera top-scored with 40 off 21 balls, while Piyush Chawla and Arjun Tendulkar added 18 and 13 runs, respectively, to improve their NRR and prevent a total collapse.

Noor Ahmed was the standout bowler for Gujarat Titans, finishing with figures of 3/37. Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma also took two wickets each, while captain Hardik Pandya claimed one. Fans expressed their dissatisfaction with Mumbai Indians’ performance on Twitter. One user wrote:

“This is the worst team ever purchased in auction.”

Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:

Gujarat Titans scored 207/6 in their 20 overs thanks to contributions from Shubman Gill, David Miller, and Abhinav Manohar. Rahul Tewatia also added a late boost with an unbeaten 20 off just five balls. For Mumbai Indians, Piyush Chawla was the standout bowler with figures of 2/34.

“That’s a little disappointing”: Rohit on MI’s Bowling

Rohit Sharma was unhappy with MI’s bowling unit for conceding 77 runs in the last five overs against GT, especially after giving up 96 runs in the last five overs against Punjab Kings in a previous loss. At the post-match show, Rohit Sharma stated:

“That’s a little disappointing, we had control of the game, and the last few overs went for a few too many runs. Every team has different strengths, we have a good batting lineup, and we back ourselves to go out and get that target. Today wasn’t our day.”

“There was some dew, and we needed someone to bat a little deeper. We came pretty close in the last game while chasing 215, but we didn’t start well with the bat today, and that is not the right thing when chasing 200+. Even in the last seven overs, we didn’t have many batters batting in the middle.” He further added.

MI is currently placed in the seventh position in the points table.
