Ravindra Jadeja issued a public apology on social media after being involved in debutant Sarfaraz Khan’s unlucky run-out during India’s third Test against England in Rajkot on Thursday, February 15.

For the uninitiated, Ravindra Jadeja made a bad call while he was on 99, and Mark Wood’s direct hit at the non-striker terminated Sarfaraz’s knock.

Sarfaraz Khan appeared to be on track for a huge score, but he fell for 62 runs off 66 balls in an innings that included sixes and nine boundaries.

In his game, he quickly scored a half-century for India on his Test debut, faster than anyone. His right-handed batting style was part of a 77-point game with Ravindra Jadeja which helped India secure a leading spot.

Ravindra Jadeja has now posted an Instagram story, writing:

“Feeling bad for Sarfaraz Khan, it was my wrong call. Well played!”

Anil Kumble, previous India leader, gave Sarfaraz Khan his first Test cap. Kumble wasn’t pleased with how Khan got out on the first day of the third Test against England.

Ravindra Jadeja’s slow-scoring was noted by the commentator-turned-cricketer. It took Ravindra Jadeja 26 balls to progress from 90 to 100.

Kumble believes the all-rounder had a defensive mindset, causing confusion. Despite this, he praised Sarfaraz’s batting performance before his surprising dismissal.

Kumble informed Jio Cinema:

“Sarfaraz was dominating in that partnership. Jadeja, I thought had got into a shell, that sometimes creates a mindset where you are not clear about the decision-making. Maybe that was one of the reasons and possibly.”

At stumps on Day 1, the hosts were 326/5, with Jadeja (110 off 212) and Kuldeep Yadav (one off 10) at the crease. Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, led from the front with 131 off 196 balls, including three maximums and 14 boundaries.

Other than the run-out, Mark Wood took three wickets for England, while Tom Hartley dismissed Rajat Patidar.
