After losing by 16 runs to Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 International on January 5 in Pune, Saba Karim slammed Team India. The former India selector thinks the team needs more harmony and coherence in its strategy. Karim emphasised how frequently India’s top hierarchy has failed. The veteran continued by saying that the hosts couldn’t rely on Suryakumar Yadav and the lower-middle order to save them in every situation.

India’s top order is the most significant issue. We frequently had bailouts from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya when more seasoned players participated. Many of them have IPL or international cricket experience. After Shubman Gill’s numerous opening failures, this statement was made by Karim. Despite having IPL playing experience, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi both performed poorly in single T20Is. In the first game against the Islanders, Team India was down to 46/3, and they were 57/5 in the second T20I.

Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former all-rounder for India, concurred with Karim. He pointed out that India can only sometimes rely on Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Suryakumar to save the team during his appearance on the same show.

The highest echelon must participate. The bat-like form of Hardik Pandya was different from what was anticipated. If we compare the two games, the lower order, particularly Axar and Suryakumar, saved us. Team India needs to improve their bowling, according to Sodhi, if the hosts want to prevail in the series finale on January 7.

In the first match of the series, batting needed to be done correctly. In the second game, we bowled improperly, and our bowling performance suffered. We must prevent Sri Lanka from winning the series at this point because they would believe they have a good chance. It will only happen if we do the fundamentals—bowl and bat well—.

The veteran believes Hardik Pandya and the company must adopt the proper attitude before playing the defending Asia Cup champions.

India should play with a more positive attitude.
