Gautam Gambhir, an cricketer is confident that the Indian team has the potential to win the 2023 World Cup and secure their third championship in this format.

Over the decade Indias inability to surpass the semifinals has been a cause of disappointment. They were defeated in both the 2015 and 2019 tournaments. Gautam Gambhir believes that the squad has appeared more stable than in the previous two seasons, nevertheless, under Rohit Sharma’s direction.

Gautam Gambhir addressed India’s prospects in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda.

“India have a serious chance of winning the 2023 World Cup, better chance than 2015 and 2019 editions. This is because the team plays just like the nature of the leader. They look up to the leader. Rohit could have easily scored 3-4 hundreds in this World Cup had he thought about batting long.”

Gautam Gambhir also emphasized the importance of trophies, in determining the legacy of individuals and teams. He expressed his belief that the current Indian team is performing well and considers them to be the frontrunners to win the trophy on November 19th.

According to Gambhir:

“Records don’t matter when you play such a big tournament. You have bilaterals to make those records. Ultimately your legacy is decided by the number of trophies you win. This team has every ingredient to win the World Cup. So if they don’t win, it will be a massive upset.”

India is set to face off against The Netherlands in their last league game, in Bengaluru this Sunday. However they will also be keeping a watch on the possibility of a match, against New Zealand scheduled to take place at Mumbais Wankhede Stadium on November 15th.
