Shreyas Iyer didn’t clinch a spot in India’s line-up for the next three matches in this current home series against England. The remaining team was named by the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) on Saturday, February 10.

Shreyas Iyer was the part of the playing XI in the first couple of Tests but, unfortunately, was never able to make a difference. The right-handed batter scored 104 runs in 4 innings at the average of 26.00. His form with red ball had been in the scrutiny after a series of disappointing outings in the format.

Before the roster announcement, speculations circulated that Shreyas Iyer had alerted team management of a back injury. The middle-order hitter is also allegedly experiencing groin problems when playing forward defense.

News agency PTI reported that Iyer was not sidelined due to injuries. Instead, a dip in performance was the real reason behind his team absence.

“If Shreyas was to be rested because of injury, the BCCI medical bulletin would have had an update. Since there are no updates, it can be concluded that he has got the axe,” the source was quoted as saying by PTI.
