“Yashasvi Jaiswal is showing England how to play Bazball in India ???? What an incredible knock he’s been playing ????????,” wrote one fan.

Here are some more reactions:

Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who is undefeated at 14, have put up 39* runs for the second wicket. Even though they lost the crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma, the hosts would be happy to finish Day 1 at 119/1, only 127 runs short of England’s total.

Yashasvi Jaiswal started his innings with a boundary off the opening ball, smacking a brilliant flip shot off Mark Wood. But it was his onslaught on England’s rookie Tom Hartley that deflated their attack.

On the opening ball of the Test match, Jaiswal slog-sweeped Hartley over cow corner for a six, and he didn’t look back. After letting up as many as 63 runs in nine overs of bowling, Hartley could have had a sobering reminder of just how brutal Test cricket can be.

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, will be unhappy with the shots he chose. He appeared to be well poised on 24 until mistiming one and giving it to Ben Stokes at mid-on. He will, however, be ecstatic at how well India is positioned in the match at stumps.
