Dinesh Karthik highlighted the scrutiny Shubman Gill is facing. He’s a top player for Team India but has struggled with poor results in Test cricket recently.

Dinesh Karthik stated that the bright kid was cautious in his approach while batting on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test against England in Hyderabad. Karthik warned Cricbuzz that if Gill’s dismal performances continue, he may lose his position in the national squad.

“You can see pressure has gone to Shubman Gill. He knows if he fails a couple of times, his career, for the moment, could be on the line. So, you could see that reluctance.”

Gill couldn’t shine in India’s pair of Test matches with South Africa, only managing 74 runs in four chances. Despite a fair beginning in the first England Test—standing 14 not out after 43 deliveries—India reached 119/1 at end of day.

Dinesh Karthik: Ben Stokes needs to learn from his captaincy mistakes

Dinesh Karthik highlighted that Ben Stokes couldn’t triumph over India using the same strategy he applied in the Pakistan Test series.

The 38-year-old stated that Stokes and his teammates would need to adapt their style in India since the wickets and batting quality are quite different from those in Pakistan.

Regarding Stokes’ captaincy, the Indian keeper said:

“After (Tom Hartley’s) three overs, I think 99 percent of the captains would have taken him off. I also think it is a huge learning curve for Ben Stokes as well. He is playing and captaining a little bit like how he captained (against) the Pakistan team. Two things are different than the Pakistan team: the calibre of batting and the kind of pitches that they played on.”

Dinesh Karthik Added:

“They played on flat pitches where they could score 500 at a quick pace and put Pakistan, who just played orthodox cricket and got that score in a much longer time. So, his way of setting fields was a lot more attacking, which is understandable because he had 500 runs on the board.”

Ben Stokes shined with the bat on Day 1 of the Hyderabad Test, making 70 runs off 88 deliveries. However, the remaining hitters failed to make an impression, being bowled out for 246 runs.
