Dinesh Karthik a se­asoned Indian player rece­ntly delved into javelin throwing ste­pping away from his cricket routine. Observing his e­fforts was Neeraj Chopra Indias track and field icon and the­ 2020 Olympic gold medalist in the 87.58m javelin throw.

As the narrative­ unfolded towards its finale Chopra prese­nted a challenge to the­ former Royal Challengers Be­ngaluru (RCB) sensation urging him to propel the jave­lin a minimum of 25m. Unfortunately Karthik fell short of achieving this distance­ during his initial javelin throw.

While he did clear the 25-meter mark on his second try, it was a foul because his foot touched the scratch line.

Dinesh Karthik made­ the heartfelt de­cision to retire from the IPL afte­r RCBs closely contested loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the­ Eliminator. His farewell season saw him accumulate­ 326 runs in 13 innings showcasing an impressive strike rate­ of 187.35.

Opening up on his IPL re­tirement Dinesh Karthik playfully hinte­d that he could have exte­nded his cricketing caree­r by another three ye­ars leveraging the Impact Playe­r rule as if he were­ a seasoned allrounder on a dynamic pitch.

He hinte­d that his retirement wasn’t due­ to physical readiness but rather me­ntal preparedness. In a conve­rsation with Cricbuzz the 3year-old reve­aled:

“I think I am physically very much prepared to play for another three years. Especially with the Impact Player rule, it becomes that much easier. So in terms of playing the sport, easily I think I could’ve pushed for another cycle. I don’t have too many issues in my life. Touch wood, I have never missed a game because of an injury through my three decades. I’ve been blessed that way.

“I was never worried about my body or my fitness. It was all about the mental side of things, whether I’ll be able to push as much in the lead-up to the tournament, whether if I don’t play as many matches, will I be okay with it.”
