Vikram Rathour, the mentor of Team India’s batting, came to the defense of KL Rahul ahead of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy versus Australia, stressing the impressive stats that the Indian vice-captain achieved recently.

It is clear that KL Rahul’s performance in Test cricket recently has not been up to par. He has scored only 180 runs in his last 10 Test innings, with only one fifty, and in 2022 he managed 137 runs in four matches with an average of 17.13 and a strike rate of 36.15.

Additionally, he was dismissed cheaply in the First BGT Test. Consequently, it may be time for the Indian Test side to consider dropping Rahul despite him being the vice-captain.

#1 Unwavering Faith on KL Rahul Despite Unfavorable Returns

Despite KL Rahul’s lackluster performances of late, India have remained patient with him. He achieved two impressive centuries against England and South Africa, but his statistics in the other matches have been unimpressive. To begin his tour of England, Rahul earned three remarkable scores, but then his following innings were 5, 0, 8, 17 and 46. He started off his South African tour with a century and a fifty in his first three matches, but then his subsequent scores were 8, 12 and 10.

#2 KL Rahul’s Dismissals: A Cause for Concern?

As Rahul’s batting stint progresses, it appears that he is losing energy and the statistics support this assertion. In the initial Test versus Australia, the opener overcame the early play well before being caught off Todd Murphy’s bowling in an unremarkable way. Captain Rohit Sharma seemed to be displeased at the non-striker’s end.

#1 Better Options Await

Shubman Gill has proven his worth in One Day Internationals, and it will not be long before he also succeeds in Test cricket. The dropping of KL Rahul could also open up a place in the squad for Sarfaraz Khan, Priyank Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who have been performing excellently at lower levels of cricket. Ultimately, this will make India a much stronger team in the future.
