Sachin Tendulkar was proud when his son Arjun Tendulkar made his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 16, 2023. Sachin is an icon for Mumbai Indians, and Arjun, having made a name for himself in domestic cricket, has now debuted for MI’s team. Sachin and Arjun are not the only father-son duo to have been a part of the IPL; there have been other examples of fathers and sons, or multiple sons, who have been present in the league. While Sachin and Arjun are unique because they have both played in the league, other fathers have been associated with teams as coaches, officials, or even broadcasters. Let’s look at 3 other instances:

1) Geoff Marsh and his sons – Mitchell Marsh and Shaun Marsh

Shaun Marsh made a huge splash in the inaugural season of the IPL, winning the Orange Cap, having scored 616 runs in 11 innings. He was part of the Punjab franchise for nine seasons and totaled 2,477 runs in 69 IPL innings, averaging almost 40. His brother Mitchell Marsh made his Indian premier league debut in 2010 with Deccan Chargers but didn’t make much of an impact until recently. He has played six IPL seasons and is now with the Delhi Capitals. Their father, Geoff Marsh, was the coach of the Pune Warriors in 2011. Unfortunately, the team failed to be successful, managing only four wins out of the fourteen games, with one match ending without a result.

2) Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Srikkanth Anirudha

Srikkanth Anirudha was part of the Chennai Super Kings team from 2008 to 2013, but he didn’t find much success in the IPL and only scored 136 runs in 13 innings at an average of 17 – including one half-century. He wasn’t given a regular chance during his tenure with the CSK and played only one match for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014, where he made only three runs.

Kris Srikkanth was also involved in the IPL as the brand ambassador of the first season of the Chennai Super Kings in 2008. Later, he was selected as the ambassador of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014.

3) Sunil Gavaskar and Rohan Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar has had a long and illustrious career in the Indian Premier League, beginning as a commentator in the first season and later taking on the role of interim president to oversee the IPL 2014 season after being appointed by the Supreme Court of India. His son, Rohan Gavaskar, was partially involved with IPL in 2010, featuring in two matches for KKR and scoring two runs before dropping out of the squad.
