On Sunday, April 23, in the 32nd match of IPL 2023, fielder Yashasvi Jaiswal of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a bullet throw to run out Faf du Plessis of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). It was a crucial point in the first inning when Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell came out swinging with their domineering partnership of 127 runs, lifting the shoulders of the RR players. Du Plessis quickly raced off for a single after solidly driving Sandeep Sharma’s ball towards the cover area.
Jaiswal caught Faf du Plessis well outside the crease after stopping the ball cleanly with a mini-dive and quickly throwing it back at the stumps.
Below is a video of the dismissal:
RCB’s innings were revived by Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell after they lost two fast wickets.
After being given the opportunity to bat first, RCB was dealt a severe setback when Virat Kohli left the game against Trent Boult for a golden duck on the first pitch. Shahbaz Ahmed, who was moved to the No. 3 spot, also missed his chance, dying in the third over while attempting to clear the infield.
As their team’s score dropped to 12/2 in 2.1 overs, Maxwell and Du Plessis worked together to make repairs. As runs poured in quickly from both ends, the pair turned to aggressive batting to rescue their side from the precarious circumstance.
With their 127-run third-wicket partnership, they helped RCB gain the upper hand. With the two in top form at the crease, the home team appeared to be in a good position to comfortably reach a target above 210.
The outstanding combination was broken by Jaiswal’s moment of brilliance on the pitch, which allowed RR to reenter the game. From that point on, the hosts’ situation deteriorated as they continued to lose wickets frequently until they eventually reached 189/9.
