Young Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February 2024. The 22-year-old outperformed senior New Zealand hitter Kane Williamson and Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka.
Yashasvi Jaiswal just finished topping the score chart in the recent India vs England Test series. He slammed 712 runs over nine innings with an average of 89. This included two double hundreds and three fifty-run innings. So far, in his brief Test profession of nine games, the southpaw has racked up 1,028 runs. His average is an impressive 68.53, boasting three centuries and four half-centuries.
The opening batsman is also the current highest run-scorer in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. In February’s Test series against England, he hit back-to-back double hundreds. Yashasvi Jaiswal therefore became the third Indian player to accomplish the feat, joining Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.
With two consecutive double hundreds at the age of 22 years and 49 days, the Mumbai batsman became the third youngest hitter in Test cricket, after Sir Donald Bradman and Kambli. The southpaw scored 209 in Visakhapatnam and 214* in Rajkot as India rallied from a 1-0 deficit to lead the series and eventually win 4-1.
During his double century in Rajkot, he also tied Wasim Akram’s record for most sixes in a Test innings (12). The kid played three Tests in February, scoring 560 runs at an average of 112.
