India’s rising wonder, Yashasvi Jaiswal, commended skipper Rohit Sharma’s attention to detail and game knowledge during their opening partnerships in the just finished Test series against England.
Shubman Jaiswal’s performances were exceptional. He scored more than 700 runs in this Test series. Only Sunil Gavaskar had achieved this before him. Jaiswal made 712 runs in 5 Tests with an average of 89. He hit two double centuries during the series.
Jaiswal’s brilliant batting led India to a 4-1 series victory. India still won comfortably despite losing the first Test unexpectedly.
Throughout the series, Jaiswal battled against off-spinners Shoaib Bashir and Joe Root by hitting square on the off-side, prompting Rohit to encourage the youngster to play straight.
When questioned about the India captain’s non-striker contributions, Jaiswal commented in an interview with The Indian Express:
“He came and told me that in that moment that shot is not on, it will be better to hit straight. So I was trying to hit straight. I must tell you nothing misses his eyes. He knows everything. That is the biggest quality. He is aware of things and what is going on. Alag level hai, it’s so fun to be around him.”

Jaiswal proceeded to praise Rohit’s abilities to support the youth, saying:
“The way he backed players throughout this journey, the way he talks, the way he bats. Whatever happens, he will be there to stand by you. I think it’s incredible to see that in your leader. I will keep learning from him.”

Jaiswal has had a great start to his Test career, being the youngest Indian to reach 1000 runs.
In nine red-ball games, the southpaw averages more than 68 and has three century, including a 171 against the West Indies on debut.

Yashasvi Jaiswal recalled hitting ace pacer James Anderson for a hat-trick of sixes in the third Test in Rajkot, saying he was confident in defeating him or any bowler once set.
Batting on 159, the 22-year-old smacked Anderson for three consecutive maximums, tying the record for most sixes in a Test innings with 12.
“Those shots were in my mind. I knew I could hit him when I got set. It was in my mind that when I’m on top of my game, I will get him. Get him in the sense, not only him, but any bowler. If I’m going after someone, I will go hundred percent.”

Jaiswal was also unsurprised to see numerous young players excel in the England series.
“Some have been playing IPL for quite a while. All have played Ranji Trophy games, many didn’t have international game match experience but had decent experience behind their back.”

Aside from Jaiswal, debutants Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, and Devdutt Padikkal stood up during the England series, while the Indian squad was without key players Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
With the victory, India made it 17 straight home series wins in Tests, their previous defeat occurring in 2012.
