Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t sure whether to aim at the stumps or not during a mishap between Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq in Sunday’s second India vs Afghanistan T20I in Indore. He later opted to run fast and knock down the stumps, he shared.
In the second T20I at Indore’s Holkar Stadium, India trumped Afghanistan by six wickets, winning two of the three matches consecutively. Afghanistan batting first was bowled out for 172 in 20 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a key role in concluding Afghanistan’s innings. He caused Farooqi to run out without scoring.
The keeper backed off at the stumps and missed, so the latter was not sure if he should take another run but cautiously tried. At the non-striker’s end, Jaiswal, who was backing up at square leg, grabbed the ball and dashed towards the stumps, successfully trapping Farooqi short of his crease.
Yashasvi Jaiswal explained his reasoning for rushing with the ball towards the stumps in order to cause a run out in a video that was uploaded on the BCCI’s official X account.
The second run out of the innings for Afghanistan came from Farooqi in a row of balls. Due to a mix-up with Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman (21 off 9) was run out off a wide delivery in the preceding delivery.
