It is not certain whether Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batsman who was unable to participate in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia at Nagpur due to a back injury, will be able to play in the second Test at Delhi either.
Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batsman of the Indian cricket team, has been dealing with a back injury. He had gone to Nagpur with the team for the first Test but unfortunately had to leave for the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore to get treatment for his injury. Shreyas Iyer has been one of the most consistent performers for the team in recent times. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to make a full recovery and make it to the team for the second Test.
Iyer will be joining the team in Delhi for the second Test, however, it is uncertain whether he will be able to participate, according to a source. The second Test will commence from 17th to 21st February in Delhi.
This implies that Suryakumar Yadav, who was dismissed for 8 runs in his first Test match in Nagpur, will have another opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities in the Test format. India won the initial Test match, concluded in three days on Saturday, by innings and 132 runs.
Iyer has been unable to play since the one-day international match series with New Zealand last month due to a sore back. The 28-year-old from Mumbai has been receiving treatment for the injury, which also caused him to miss the Twenty20 series against New Zealand, at the National Cricket Academy.
