Shashi Tharoor, a respected politician from Kerala, recently voiced his support for Sanju Samson after Suryakumar Yadav’s dismal performance in the recent ODI series against Australia, getting out three times in a row. Ashton Agar got the better of him in the series finale, while Mitchell Starc sent him packing in the first two matches. In response, Tharoor tweeted his backing for Sanju Samson:
“Now that poor @surya_14kumar has set an unenviable world record w/his three golden ducks in a row, is it unreasonable to ask why @IamSanjuSamson , averaging 66 in ODIs despite batting at an unfamiliar position for him at 6, wasn’t in the squad? What does he need to do?”
Sanju Samson last played for Team India in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at home in January. He had to miss out on the last two games due to a left knee injury suffered while fielding near the boundary ropes in the first match. So far, Samson has been part of 11 ODIs for Team India and has scored 330 runs at an average of 66. Yadav, in contrast, has featured in 23 ODIs, scoring 433 runs at an average of 24.06. In 2023, he made 49 runs from seven matches, averaging 8.17.
Samson will continue to lead Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023
Sanju Samson has been chosen to lead the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicketkeeper-batter had a stellar campaign last year. He scored 458 runs in 17 games at a strike rate of 146.79 and helped his team reach the final. Suryakumar Yadav, who tallied 303 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 145.67, will hope to return to form in this tournament. RR will start their journey against SunRisers Hyderabad on April 2, while Mumbai Indians will face off against RCB in the evening fixture.
