Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal became history’s first IPL bowler to reach 200 wickets. The leg-spinner executed a soft dismissal, sending Mumbai Indians all-rounder Mohammad Nabi back to the pavilion. This historic feat occurred at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.
Yuzvendra Chahal was stuck on 199 wickets after dismissing Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer in a recent high-scoring Eden Gardens encounter. Introduced in the 8th over, he needed merely three balls to claim his 200th IPL scalp – a momentous achievement.
Following a strong start to the over, the leg-spinner produced a flighted delivery. Nabi attempted to flick it to the leg side, but only got a thick leading edge. Yuzvendra Chahal took a few strides to his left after his follow-through and made the most basic of receptions.
He immediately sank to his knees to celebrate the wicket, both hands pointed heaven and his eyes closed.
Take a look at the historic occasion here:
Yuzvendra Chahal started playing in IPL 2013 for Mumbai Indians (MI). He became famous after doing very well for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The leg-spinner required six years to reach one hundred wickets. However, he accelerated through the next hundred in only four years. Chahal surpassed legends Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo during this remarkable achievement.
He became the IPL’s highest wicket-taker after dismissing Nitish Rana against KKR at Eden Gardens during 2023’s tournament.
Yuzvendra Chahal is also competing in the 2024 Purple Cap race. He is presently level with Jasprit Bumrah at 13 wickets in eight matches, but the cap may go either way as MI and RR face off in Jaipur.
It remains to be seen if Chahal’s record-breaking streak can help him get a position on Team India’s 2024 T20 World Cup roster. He has been on point for the majority of the season and can flip gears in the second half, as he has done in the past.
