On Monday, Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw was removed for 13 runs in the current 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
Shaw began the innings with a flurry of boundaries against Mitchell Starc, after DC captain Rishabh Pant chose to bat first. The opening batsman appeared to be in excellent form as he faced Vaibhav Arora in the innings’ second over.
The right-arm pacer produced a full delivery that swung into Prithvi Shaw late and perhaps too much. It was the ideal delivery for the batsman to flick over square leg or fine leg, but Shaw could only hit it to the wicketkeeper.
Despite the home side’s strong plea, the umpire remained unimpressed. Shreyas Iyer decided to seek a review when wicketkeeper Phil Salt pressed on it. As soon as the KKR captain completed the review, Prithvi Shaw began walking back to the pavilion, even though the third umpire had not yet seen a replay or the extreme edge.
Replays revealed that the bat’s edge was in play, as a spike appeared on the screen. Shaw was already on the boundary line when the third umpire requested that the on-field official reconsider his judgment.

Prithvi Shaw has been in fantastic form, but has struggled to convert his starts of late. Since his scorching fifty against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, the opening batsman has scored 32, 7, 16, and 11 runs.
DC lose a cluster of wickets including Prithvi Shaw in the powerplay
Following Prithvi Shaw’s dismissal in the second over of the innings, opening partner Jake Fraser-McGurk followed suit. The dashing kid was forced to depart following a good catch by Venkatesh Iyer off Mitchell Starc’s bowling.
In the fourth over, Vaibhav Arora struck again with a peach of a delivery to castle Shai Hope, reducing the visitors to 37/3. DC, on the other hand, concluded the powerplay on a high note thanks to the left-handed combination of Rishabh Pant and Abishek Porel.
