Royal ChallengeÂrs Bengaluru (RCB) wicket-keeÂper Dinesh Karthik delighteÂd spectators with his amazing batting prowess during the chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It happeneÂd in their IPL 2024 match on Monday (April 16) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the 18th oveÂr, Dinesh Karthik hit a spectacular six against SRH’s veteran bowleÂr Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Facing a full-length deliveÂry outside off-stump, Dinesh Karthik changed his grip, then eÂffortlessly lofted the ball oveÂr point for six runs. Dinesh Karthik stroke-making was simply breathtaking.

Sunrisers HydeÂrabad went in to bat first. They put up an incredible score of 287 runs. This came at the loss of just 3 wickeÂts in their 20 over innings. OpeÂner Travis Head shone brightly, smashing a speÂctacular 102 off 39 deliveries. His seÂnsational century stole the limeÂlight. Heinrich Klaasen chipped in with 67 valuable runs. Abhishek Sharma (34) and Aiden Markram (32*) played handy knocks. Abdul Samad’s unbeÂaten 37 lent finishing fireworks, propeÂlling the total skyward.
Royal Challengers Bangalore began the chase strongly, Virat Kohli and Faf du PleÂssis adding 80 in 6.2 overs. However, Kohli’s dismissal for 42 (20 balls) triggeÂred a collapse. Du Plessis deÂparted after a battling 62, RCB reeÂling at 122/5 halfway through.Â
Dinesh Karthik delivered a magnificent innings, blasting the SRH bowlers all over the park on his way to 83 (35). However, it was insufficient, as the goal proved simply too difficult for a one-man show.
Following the match, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis praised his batters’ battling attitude in the difficult chase, saying:
“The boys never gave up, there is a bit of fight in us but 30-40 runs too many from the bowling perspective. I mean that’s important, you need to go away and freshen your minds. It’s a mental game and when you have defeats like this you can feel that your mind can explode. Really was an uphill task for us.”

Faf Du Plessis further on the events that occurred during the match, saying:
“It was crazy the amount of runs that were scored today. Is a world record I guess. Yeah it’s tough, we have done quite a few things behind the closed doors but the different things hasn’t been working. Game of cricket is difficult when the confidence is down. When you are not on top of your game, there is nowhere to hide.”
