Three records that Virat Kohli can break in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia
This month, Team India will host Australia in a four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, one of their most important tasks for 2023. Virat Kohli, of course, is one of India’s most important players going into the series. He would aim to carry his success in the shorter game format into the longer form, leading the Indian batting unit with confidence.
Virat Kohli will have a chance to set several personal milestones in the upcoming Test series with Australia. We’ll see three of those now.
Kohli has the potential to break the record for the fastest player to reach 25,000 runs in all international competitions.
One of the modern legend’s goals is to break the record of 25,000 international runs in all formats, an impressive feat but one that is comfortably within reach. If Kohli scores 64 runs in the series, as he almost certainly will, he will surpass 25,000 runs faster than anybody else in history. The current holder of the record is Indian great Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored 25000 runs in 576 innings.
If Kohli keeps this up, he can become one of India’s top five run scorers in Test matches.
Next season’s series gives Kohli a great chance to increase India’s run total in Test matches. Kohli is presently sixth all-time for India in Test runs scored, with 8,119 at an average of just below 49. With 391 runs in four Tests, he will pass Virender Sehwag and move into fifth place on India’s all-time list for red-ball cricket runs scored.
In the series against Australia, Kohli has a chance to become the Indian player with the second-most Test centuries.
In the first innings of the Perth Test in 2018, Virat Kohli scored 123 runs, his last century in a match against Australia. The ex-Indian captain is eager to add to his record. If he scores two hundred in the forthcoming series, he will overtake Sunil Gavaskar as India’s second-leading century-maker in Australia. Kohli has scored seven centuries in 20 Test matches against Australia, whereas Gavaskar has hit eight tonnes in the same number of games.
