Virat Kohli, the IPL’s star hitter, has eclipsed Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes by a batter while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli passed Chris Gayle in the IPL 2024 game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, March 29. Kohli scored 83* from 59 balls.
Virat Kohli blasted four fours and as many sixes in his remarkable performance, bringing his total of sixes while playing for RCB in the IPL to 241. West Indian great Gayle has hit 238 sixes for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the tournament.
The South African icon, AB de Villiers, stands tall in the third position with 238 sixes. GleÂnn Maxwell follows closely with 68, trailed by Faf du PleÂssis, the current RCB captain, boasting 50 sixes. WheÂn discussing the highest sixes tally in IPL history, Gayle reigns supreme with 357. HeÂ’s trailed by Rohit Sharma’s 261, De Villiers’ 251, and Kohli’s 241, while MS Dhoni rounds out the top five with 239 maximums.
Virat Kohli hit his first six in the IPL 2024 against KKR on Friday, sending an off-cutter from Mitchell Starc over deep square leg in the third over for RCB. His second six came in the ninth over, when he slog-swept Sunil Narine over deep midwicket.
The 35-year-old hit his third maximum in the 12th over, swinging Varun Chakaravarthy over deep midwicket ropes.
His fourth and final six of the innings came in the last over, when he smacked Starc over deep midwicket. While Kohli stayed undefeated at 83, Royal Challengers Bengaluru concluded with 182-6.
RCB’s score, however, fell short, and KKR knocked down the goal in 16.5 overs with seven wickets in hand. Narine (47 off 22) and Phil Salt (30 off 20) scored 86 for the first wicket in 6.3 overs.
Venkatesh Iyer provided 50 off 30, while the skipper contributed Shreyas Iyer (39* off 24), who smashed the winning six against Mayank Dagar.

Virat Kohli, RCB’s in-form batsman, now has the Orange Cap. In three innings, he has scored 181 runs with an average of 90.50 and a strike rate of 141.41.
The right-handed hitter started his IPL 2024 campaign with 21 off 20 against the Chennai Super Kings. He backed it up with 77 off 49 in a four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings before adding another half-century against KKR on Friday.
