Virat Kohli’s impressive 77 off 49 balls led RCB to victory in their opening home clash with Punjab Kings. The star batsman delivered when it mattered most. His masterful knock blended crisp timing with controlled aggression, altering momentum in a tense game. Recognizable for his driven excellence, Kohli rose above the intense IPL pressure to steer Bengaluru’s triumph on March 25.
The former captain was instrumental in RCB’s pursuit of 177 despite losing Faf du Plessis, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Rajat Patidar for low scores. He was proactive in the powerplay and showed intent in the middle overs against the spinners and Kagiso Rabada, helping RCB go closer to the objective.

Virat Kohli appeared set for a big score. But Harshal Patel ended his stay. Kohli couldn’t finish the chase himself. Yet, his knock proved valuable. Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror played vital cameos. Their efforts ensured RCB’s maiden win this season.
During the post-match presentation, Kohli made a subtle jab at those who believe his brand worth outweighs his accomplishments on the field.
“I know my name is now attached to just promoting the game in different parts of the world when it comes to T20 cricket. I’ve still got it, I guess.”

As the T20 World Cup nears in the Caribbean and United States, the ICC aims to grow cricket globally. Kohli’s inclusion seems key. However, India has blooded young talent with Kohli playing just two T20Is recently. Factors like his batting slot, form, IPL show and more will impact the final decision.
The sport’s governing body is eager to promote cricket in new regions. Kohli’s selection appears inevitable for the marquee event. Yet, the emergence of rookies over the past two years, during which Kohli featured in only a couple of T20 Internationals, complicates matters. Various aspects – his batting order, recent performance, IPL exploits, and any other relevant factor – will receive scrutiny before finalizing the squad.

Kohli also discussed his innings, which improved somewhat, particularly in the middle overs, an area where he has previously struggled.
“I try to give the team a blazing start, but if wickets fall you have to assess. Wasn’t the usual flat pitch. Disappointed I couldn’t finish the game. Was in the slot but sliced it to deep point. They know I play the cover drive well, so they’re not going to allow me to hit gaps. You have to come up with a game plan here and there.”

Although far from flawless, Kohli attempted to be proactive against Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar. However, in his defence, he had to defend his wicket as the rest of the batting line crumbled around him throughout the chase.
“Couldn’t have been more grateful to God for the opportunity to spend time with the family” – Virat Kohli

The IPL marks Kohli’s comeback to competitive cricket following a two-month sabbatical. He missed the full home Test series against England because he became a parent for the second time.
Kohli discussed the experience of being away from cricket and spending time with his family.
“Just to feel normal for two months – for me, my family – it was a surreal experience. Couldn’t have been more grateful to God for the opportunity to spend time with the family. It’s an amazing experience to just be another person on the road and not be recognised.”
