Shubman Gill continues to demonstrate why he is perhaps the next big thing in Indian cricket, according to star batsman Virat Kohli. On Monday, Gill hit a stunning century for the Gujarat Titans (GT) against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad.
This also helped his team win by 34 runs and secure a spot in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1. Kohli turned to Instagram and posted a story about how Gill has continued to live up to his potential with regular performances.

Shubman Gill’s banter with Abhishek Sharma
While Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma play for separate IPL teams, the pair plays domestic cricket for Punjab and have opened together in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They have an excellent friendship and naturally joked around before the game.
Gill explained how he had challenged Abhishek for a six against his left-arm spin. Here’s what the opener had to say after being named Player of the Match:
“I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, so life has come a full circle. Hopefully many more to come. It’s all about the bowlers and situation and I don’t dwell much on my last innings. It is important to focus on the situation in front. The six off Abhishek Sharma was the most pleasing thing for me. I told him that if you bowl to me I’m gonna hit you for a six.”
Fans have continued to draw comparisons between Gill’s performance and the blazing start Virat Kohli had to his career. If the young man continues to score runs with such regularity, he may live up to the ‘generational talent’ label given to him by supporters.
