Saba Karim, a former batsman-wicket keeper, thinks that Virat Kohli might have difficulty batting if the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is prepped with a spin-friendly surface for the second Test against Australia.
He emphasized that it will be difficult for batters to gain runs off spinning deliveries. Karim suggested that Kohli would need to display a great deal of perseverance in order to accumulate significant runs.
The 55-year-old stated that the senior batter was very familiar with the Delhi pitch since it was his home ground. Nevertheless, he noted that the condition of the wicket would greatly influence Kohli’s performance.
Karim pointed out that if the pitch is a turning one, it will be a big test for Virat Kohli, he said to a news channel. Moreover, he mentioned that it is not easy to score runs on these wickets and it requires a lot of determination and caution to succeed, and Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel demonstrated that in the first Test.
“Kohli has played a lot of cricket in Delhi and has also played his domestic cricket there. However, a lot will depend on the pitch of the stadium.”
Saba Karim went on to add that Virat Kohli, who achieved his last Test century in 2019 against Bangladesh, will be eager to improve his performance in the longer format of the game.
Virat Kohli had a disappointing performance with the bat in the first Test of the series against Australia in Nagpur, only making 12 runs. The right-handed batter was dismissed by first-time off-spinner Todd Murphy, attempting to glance a ball that was heading towards the leg stump. Unfortunately, he only managed to get a faint edge that flew straight into the gloves of Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey.
