Star Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have both fallen one rank in the current ICC Test Rankings. Kohli, who did not play the first two Tests against England, has fallen from sixth to seventh place. Meanwhile, Sharma has dropped from 12th to 13th place after scoring 27 runs in both innings in the Vizag Test match.
Harry Brook has also dropped out of the current India-England series. The England batter has slipped from seventh to ninth. Usman Khawaja has risen in the current rankings. He has surpassed Virat Kohli and Brook to become the new sixth-ranked batsman.
While Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma slipped one position apiece, young Indian hitters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill rose significantly in the new rankings. Jaiswal has advanced 37 ranks to 29th place, with a career-high rating of 632 points. In Vizag, the left-handed batter scored a match-winning double hundred.
Shubman Gill has advanced 14 spots to 38th place, owing to his century in the second innings. Gill has reached a career high of 578 rating points during the Vizag Test match.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were not the only Indian batters to drop in ICC Test Rankings
Along with Kohli and Sharma, a number of other Indians have slipped in the ICC Test Rankings. Shreyas Iyer, who hasn’t played a significant knock in recent matches, has slid from 48th to 50th. Despite a strong performance with the bat against England, Axar Patel has dropped from 50th to 51st.
Experienced players Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane went down to 37th and 47th places. This happened after they were removed from the Test team. Ravindra Jadeja didn’t play in the Vizag Test. So, he dropped from 39th to 42nd in the ICC Test Rankings for batters.
