On February 15, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma announced the birth of their second child, a boy. The couple announced the news on their social media accounts and named the newborn Akaay.
The announcement has followers buzzing on the internet, eager to learn the significance of Akaay. The word ‘Akaay’ comes from the Sanskrit language and signifies ‘immortal’ or ‘non-decaying’. ‘Kaay’ has the same origin as ‘kaaya’, which means ‘shape’ or ‘body’.
It is also derived from the Hindi term ‘kaya’, which refers to someone who transcends their physical shape or body. In addition to the two ancient Indian languages, ‘Akaay’ also means ‘Shining Moon’ in Turkish.
After the news broke, many celebrities from cricket and cinema congratulated Virat Kohli and Anushka.
Virat Kohli’s former RCB colleague and South African great AB de Villiers recently announced that the couple is expecting a second child before retracting his statement and apologized.
In 2017, the pair got hitched. They greeted Vamika, their first offspring, in January of 2021. The name Vamika holds great significance in Sanskrit, symbolizing Goddess Durga.
Virat Kohli to skip all five Tests against England
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli isn’t playing in all five games of the England-India test series. Currently, the home team, England, is leading with two games to India’s one.
The 35-year-old was initially ruled out of the opening two Tests, citing personal emergency reasons. However, he was later ruled out of the entire series when the selectors picked the squad for the final three Tests after the second encounter.
Virat Kohli also missed the opening T20I of the three-match series against Afghanistan before the England series. Despite earlier setbacks, he came back for the next two contests, aiding India in clinching a 3-0 series victory. This marked Kohli’s initial T20I return for India after the 2022 World Cup semi-finals downturn in Australia.
The champion hitter has been in excellent form recently, helping India draw the Test series in South Africa and advance to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Kohli led the way in the latter, scoring 765 runs at a Bradmanesque average of 95.62, including three centuries.
In the contest, Virat Kohli shattered Tendulkar’s earlier record of 49 centuries in One Day Internationals.
Meanwhile, India overcame a shocking setback in Hyderabad in the present England Test series with decisive victories in Visakhapatnam and Rajkot to take a 2-1 lead.
The fourth Test between the two sides will begin on Friday, February 23, in Ranchi.
