After winning the Delhi Test, India has acquired an insurmountable lead over Australians in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After the victory in Delhi Test, the Men in Blue now have a lead of 2-0. But KL Rahul has been disappointing his fans with his batting in three innings. He has managed only 38 runs.
Reversing his earlier verdict about the ICC’s treatment of KL Rahul, the former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad criticized the Indian Cricket Board on 20th February 2023 for unduly favoring other members of the team over Rahul. Now, Prasad likened Rahul’s Test career to that of his teammates Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal, whom he assessed to have achieved better than Rahul in terms of batting average, strike rate, and the number of scores. Venkatesh Prasad commented on KL Rahul, saying that Indore is his best chance at returning to form and stopping critics like me.
Venkatesh Prasad wrote: There is a view that KL Rahul has an outstanding performance in overseas Test cricket. But statistics disagree with this. He has a Test batting average of 30 over 56 innings. He has scored 6 overseas centuries, but scores in the lower end of the low score range followed that, which is why his average was 30.
He added that Shikhar Dhawan has the best Test average among recently opened batsmen. He has the highest overseas batting average among modern-day openers, with an average of nearly 40 with 5 100s. With some exceptions in the Test and outstanding innings in SL and NZ. Compared to his current home stats, this isn’t the best.
Additionally, he stated that the Test stats of batters with Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, and Ajinkya Rahane had to get higher. In the end, he wrote: But if KL retains his place for the remainder of the 2 Test matches, he will be able to attain his objectives and silence detractors like him. Otherwise, he must play county cricket and perform to make a comeback in Test cricket.
