Trent Boult emulated his Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson during New Zealand’s second World Cup warmup game against South Africa on Monday, October 2 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

The left-arm pacer was spotted copying Samson near the boundary skirtings in a video posted on social media. The crowd applauded as Boult amused them with his antics, closely replicating Samson’s method of removing and donning the cap and playing a shot in the air.

Trent Boult took two wickets in four overs against the Proteas in a warm up game. The 34-year-old recently took eight wickets, including a fifer, in two matches against England before taking two against Bangladesh.

In ODI World Cups, Trent Boult has a strong track record. In the 2015 and 2019 editions of the competition, he took 22 wickets (nine games) and 17 wickets (10 matches). He will now attempt to capitalize on the circumstances, having played 88 IPL matches for RR, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In the warm-up match, the Kiwis defeated South Africa by 7 runs using the DLS system.

New Zealand batted first and finished with 321/6 in their allocated 50 overs. Devon Conway batted brilliantly, getting 78 runs off 73 balls, including one six and 11 boundaries. Glenn Phillips and Tom Latham followed with scores of 52 (56) and 43 (40), respectively.

South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen both took three wickets.

After 37 overs (reduced owing to rain), the Proteas were 211/4. Quinton de Kock hit 84 off 89 balls, including one six and twelve boundaries. Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen contributed 51 (56) and 39 (37) points, respectively. Aside from Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi each took one wicket.

Previously, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by five wickets, thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s 97 (72) and half-centuries from Mark Chapman (65), Daryl Mitchell (59), and Kane Williamson (54).
