An old tweet by the late Shane Warne is doing the rounds on X (previously Twitter) in the aftermath of Travis Head’s World Cup-winning exploits for Australia in the final versus India.
The post is from December 2016, when the leg-spinning icon praised the South Australian, who was just turning 23, and dubbed him an all-format star in the making.
On Sunday, November 19, Travis Head hit a match-winning century against India in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This came after he made a spectacular catch that sent opposing captain Rohit Sharma packing for 47 runs.

Australia Lift Sixth World Cup After Travis Head’s Stunning Knock
On Sunday, Australia and India faced battle in front of a sellout crowd of 132,000 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pat Cummins’ choice to bowl first at the toss aroused eyebrows, but it worked well as he demonstrated with a fantastic spell of bowling and intelligent tactical maneuvers on the field.
India got off to another fast start with to Rohit, but once he was out, the batting slowed significantly. Despite half-centuries from Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the runs dried up in the middle overs, as India were finally restricted to 240 in their 50 overs.
In response, Australia lost three wickets in the first seven overs but got off to a fast start due to Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. The former had his moments of fortune, but he went on to keep the Indian bowlers at bay, scoring his sixth ODI century to put the hosts out.
The left-handed opener fell for a 120-ball 137 before Glenn Maxwell struck the clinching runs as Australia won their sixth men’s World Cup title. They were also the first side to win the title away from home since Ricky Ponting’s men did so in the Caribbean in 2007.
