Faf du Plessis, captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), struck the longest six of the IPL 2023 season on April 15 against the Lucknow Super Giants. Du Plessis hit the longest six of the year, blasting LSG spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi 115 meters over mid-wicket and far beyond the boundary. He now holds the record for the longest six of IPL 2023, surpassing CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube’s 102-meter effort.
The South African’s 115-meter hit is tied for the 10th-longest six in IPL history with MS Dhoni, his former CSK captain. The top five are listed below.
5) 119m- Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh and Ross Taylor
Three players are tied for fifth place on the list of longest sixes in IPL history. All three are legendary figures from the history of white-ball cricket who were nightmares for bowlers.
In the first-ever Indian Premier League season, Ross Taylor smashed a six from 119 yards out. Taylor hit a massive six for RCB off CSK teammate and countryman Jacob Oram. Yuvraj Singh did it again the following year, this time against CSK bowler Albie Morkel. Chris Gayle’s 119-meter smash in 2013 put him in the company of Yuvraj Singh and Ross Taylor. During his aggressive 175* against the Pune Warriors, he got one over left-arm spinner Ali Mortaza.
4) 120m- A. R. Uthappa
During his time with RCB, Robin Uthappa was able to accomplish this. Uthappa got 23 runs off 15 balls as Mumbai Indians chased 152 in 2010. Uthappa hit a massive six (120 meters) off Dwayne Bravo in the 13th over of the RCB innings. As the ball soared over the concrete dome of the Brabourne Stadium, Uthappa slid over the off-stump and smashed a full-length delivery by Bravo miles over wide long-on.
3) 122m- Adam Gilchrist
In an Indian Premier League match against RCB in 2011, the then-captain of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) struck a six that travelled 122 yards. In Dharamshala, Gilchrist hit 106 runs off of 55 balls (with a strike rate of 192.72) with the help of eight fours and nine sixes.
Charl Langeveldt, a fast bowler for RCB, was responsible for the day’s most significant maximum. Gilchrist hit six of 122 yards out of Dharamshala after the South African attempted a slower ball and got hit by it—three consecutive sixes by Gilchrist against Langeveldt.
2) 124m- Praveen Kumar
In the 2008 IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and RCB, RCB were reduced to 78 for six, forcing Praveen Kumar up the order for a pinch-hitting appearance. The Indian speedster reaped the benefits of the strategy, scoring 34 runs off of 30 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. Praveen Kumar hit Yusuf Pathan, a part-time player for the Royals, for a six that travelled an impressive 124 meters. He strengthened it over the long-on boundary, but it almost missed the ceiling.
Later in his brilliant batting cameo, Praveen hit spin whiz Shane Warne for sixes in a row.
1) 125m- Albie Morkel
In the 2008 IPL season, Albie Morkel hit Longest six of 125 meters off of left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha while playing for the Chennai Super Kings against the disbanded Deccan Chargers. After 15 years in the lucrative league, Morkel’s blade still delivers the hardest hit. After the ball left the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, the South African got down on one knee and smashed it over mid-wicket.
