On Sunday, Dece­mber 3, Team India secure­d a victory over Australia in the fifth T20I. The match took place­ at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The gap was six runs. With this success, India has now le­d the series 4-1.

On a slow track, India could only muster 160/8 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Shreyas Iyer (53) batted solidly throughout the innings and then delivered a couple big blows at the finish. Jitesh Sharma (24) and Axar Patel (31) also contributed with vital cameos to keep the innings going in the last overs.

In response, Travis Head (28) got Australia off to a quick start but was unable to convert it into a huge knock. Ben McDermott (54) played an innings similar to Iyer’s for India in the first innings, keeping Australia in contention. Arshdeep Singh bowled him in the 15th over, bringing the hosts back into the game. Arshdeep then successfully protected 10 runs in the last over to help the Men in Blue win the match.

Suryakumar Yadav, India’s captain, said during the post-match presentation that it was a closely contested series and thanked his teammates for stepping up and performing well. Surya commented on the series victory:

“It was a hard fought series from day one, 200 every game and the way boys showed skills is commendable. We wanted to be fearless, we wanted to enjoy when we were in the middle and I told them to enjoy the game, the result shows now.”

He continued:

“If you would’ve been there, it would’ve been an add-on but I’ve seen many a games at Chinnaswamy, when teams have scored 200, it becomes easier to chase, but with 160, I told my boys that it is game on after 10 overs.”
