It looks like the hunt for a new Test vice-captain has begun after the selection committee recently sacked KL Rahul from his post. There wasn’t any official statement from the BCCI but KL Rahul had lost his tag of vice-captain before his name in the squad announcement. He has already been replaced in India’s ODI and T20 teams as the deputy skipper by Hardik Pandya. Rishab Pant is out of action due to his accident and Hardik Pandya does not play Test cricket, which is why India needs another option. The selectors do not have too many options available, but here are three names who could replace KL Rahul:
#1 Jasprit Bumrah
Bumrah has performed brilliantly for Team India in home and away Tests. Bumrah has also captained the team once in the last Test of the 5- match series against England indicating that the board sees him as a potential leader. As soon as he recovers from his injuries and regains full fitness, he will be among the contenders to be the new Test vice-captain.
#2 Ravichandran Ashwin
The off-spin bowling all-rounder has lost his place in India’s ODI and T20I squads but continues to be a big match-winner for the team in Test cricket. Thinking out of the box is his personality as he has one of the best cricketing brains in the world. It shouldn’t be a surprise if selectors name him as the new Test vice-captain.
#3 Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara recently reached the milestone of playing 100 Test matches which shows his credibility for the format. He has enormous experience as he only plays Test cricket which is another reason why he is among the top contenders on the list.
