Partnerships are crucial and are what decide a game’s outcome. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen some terrific partnership displays over time. Here are the top 3 partnerships of IPL history:
#1 Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers – 229 runs in 96 balls
The duo holds the record for the top two partnerships in IPL history. The first one came against Gujarat Lions in 2016. RCB lost their first wicket as Gayle early. Once Gayle left, Kohli and de Villiers took charge to build the innings. The duo forged a stand of 229 runs for the 2nd wicket off just 96 balls. Kohli finished on 109 off 55 balls and de Villiers finished 129* off 52 balls.
#2 Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers – 215 runs in 105 balls
This duo holds second place as well. Before building up the 229 runs stand, they were already ruling the charts. This came against the Mumbai Indians in Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai got its first breakthrough early but little did they know what was about to happen. With de Villiers scoring a magnificent 133* off 59 balls, Kohli finished on a 50-ball 82*. They made sure Mumbai did not get another chance to celebrate. However, Mumbai tried their best but lost the game by a margin of 39 runs.
#3 Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul – 210 runs in 120 balls
This is the latest inclusion in the list of highest partnerships in IPL. It came against the Kolkata Knight Riders when the duo decided not to show any mercy on the bowlers and remained unbeaten till the end. This is also the highest-ever opening stand in the IPL. KL Rahul scored 68* off 51 while de Kock 140* off just 70 balls. The match turned out to be a thriller as KKR lost the game by a very short margin of 2 runs.
