Indians losing their cool on the ground is not a new thing. Indian cricket has also witnessed some of the ugliest spats over the course of time. We are listing the top 5 of them.
#1 S Sreesanth vs Harbhajan Singh
The controversy was embroiled when Harbhajan Singh allegedly slapped Sreesanth. It came into light when Sreesanth was caught by TV cameras crying on the field before the presentation ceremony. The disciplinary committee banned Harbhajan from the remainder of the tournament and prohibited him from collecting his salary after finding him guilty.
#2 Virendra Sehwag vs MS Dhoni
Dhoni and Sehwag were never great friends but their differences of opinion were never this severe, as on the Australian tour of 2011-12. India after facing a crushing defeat in one ODI, Dhoni stated that the three senior players – Virendra Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir – were not being picked together in the tournament because they were slow fielders and could cost the side at least 20 runs. However, Sehwag didn’t agree with this.
#3 Kapil Dev vs Sunil Gavaskar
The incident occurred in the mid-80s. The rift first came out after Kapil Dev was dropped from the cricket team against the visiting English team in 1984, which also delayed Kapil’s 100th Test match. The reason is said to be as a punishment for playing a reckless shot in the second Test match at Delhi, eventually ending up as the losing side.
#4 Navjot Singh Sidhu vs Mohammad Azharuddin
This spat happened in 1996 on England tour when Sidhu flew back to India before the start of the Test series. The tour is remembered for the infamous walk-out by opener Sidhu, citing differences with his captain. However, the exact reasons have never been spelled out by the people. However, Lele, in his book, claimed that Azhar used Hyderabadi slang which offended Sidhu.
#5 Suresh Raina vs Ravindra Jadeja
The duo hogged the limelight after they were involved in a heated on-field argument. The incident happened after Jadeja dismissed West Indies batsman Sunil Narine before Raina dropped a catch offered by Narine in his previous over. Things started to heat up and skipper Virat Kohli had to intervene to cool things down.
