The Indian squad made their way to the Big Apple in two separate groups. Players from the IPL franchises that were ousted after the league phase arrived in the USA a few days ahead. Following suit Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan hopped on the bandwagon with the Indian team. Notably the eminent Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is still on the sidelines in New York.
India will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5 in New York. They have been grouped in Group A with archrivals Pakistan, co-hosts the United States, Ireland, and Canada.
How did India perform in the last edition of the T20 World Cup?
The 2022 T20 World Cup took center stage in Australia. Embracing the thrill the Men in Blue became part of a dynamic group in the Super Eight stage sharing the limelight with teams like Pakistan South Africa Bangladesh the Netherlands and Zimbabwe.
They dominated the table following five games triumphing in four including a captivating victory over their rivals Pakistan. In the Super Eight their lone defeat occurred against South Africa when the Proteas chased down 134 runs with only two balls and five wickets left.
Rohit Sharma and his team entered the semi-finals as overwhelming favorites to defeat England and go to the final. Jos Buttler and his colleagues really astonished a full Adelaide audience.
Batting initiation saw the Men in Blue struggle to compile a modest 168/6 within their allocated 20 overs. This was primarily thanks to Virat Kohlis explosive halfcentury. Possessing a formidable bowling lineup it seemed like the Asian giants had a decent chance on the field. Surprisingly Jos Buttler and Alex Hales flipped the script on the bowlers effortlessly achieving the target in a mere 16 overs with a comfortable 10 wickets in hand.
